1916 Nov


Trenches(GR 15) to Lock House(C133). Relieved by Otago. Fine warm billet by Lys River. Huns raided T’s 87,88 and 89.

Lock House to Subsidiary(GR13). Last night's raid saw about 30 casualties. We have relieved Ruahine. Bivvy very small; have a bad cold.

Subsidiary GR13 to Trenches  86-86 frontline. Relieved Otago. Weather cold and miserable. Most days quiet.

Trenches to DRB Barburre. Good beds ,had hot bath. Weather wet and cold.

1916 Nov/Dec


DRH Arementieres to Sailly. 11km tramp. Decent billet. Playing 7-a-side rugby. Plenty of buzz practice. Ground very slushy. Tues 12th snowing. Thurs 14 mail from home. Have sent Xmas cable home.

1916 Dec


Sailly to Trenches. Tramped to trenches, wet and windy. Bivvy very small. Artillery busy. Xmas Eve our planes busy. Xmas Day; our artillery active, dinner, plum pudding and tinned fruit. Fixed troublesome commutator. Raining. New Years Eve; on duty 11pm, old year out and new  welcomed in trenches. Heard music around midnight.
